Allagash Fluxus 2014

Since 1995 Allagash Brewing Company has been producing some of the country’s greatest interpretations of the Belgian classics. Inspired by traditional Belgian Abbey recipes and brewing techniques, founder Rob Tod set out to fill a niche that the American beer industry clearly lacked at the time. His first brew, White Ale, is arguably the most distinguished Belgian Wit this side of the Atlantic and remains the brewery’s flagship ale to this day. Rob soon began experimenting with other Belgian recipes until he perfected his version of the Dubbel and Tripel using his own proprietary Belgian yeast strain.

Every year Allagash creates a new version of Fluxus to celebrate the anniversary of their first beer sold in July 1995. The name Fluxus is Latin for continuous change – a perfect definition for the world of craft beer. This annual event allows the brewers to push the limits with new recipes and ingredients and it’s something we look forward to every year in NJ! Fluxus 2014 is a bier de miel brewed with a blend of 2-row and vienna malts, spruce tips and honey. It was hopped with Hallertau and fermented with Allagash house yeast. Weighing at at 8.8%ABV, the result is pale yellow with the flavor and aroma honey and spruce notes. The honey and spruce combination strike a balance that allow both to express themselves, while a pleasant malt character keeps either from taking over. The finish of this medium bodied ale is long and warming. This beer was a collaboration project between Allagash controller and Master Beekeeper, Erin Forbes and Allagash lab and sensory guru Karl Arnber.

Like many craft breweries in the USA, Allagash keeps the environment in mind when they come up with delicious and innovative new beers every year. Brewed with wheat and spiced with coriander and Curacao orange peel, White is vibrant and refreshing with tons of citrus and spice on both the nose and palate. 5% abv

Tripel
This version of the Belgian classic boasts layers up on layers of flavors with a long, warming finish. Notes of tropical fruit on the nose with hints of banana and honey on the palate. One of the most food-friendly styles on the market. Delicious with your Thanksgiving Turkey, rich gooey Camembert or sinfully sweet fruit-based desserts. 9% abv

Curieux
If you love the Tripel, the Curieux should be next on your list of beers to try. Allagash ages the Tripel in Jim Beam Bourbon barrels for eight weeks and then blends in fresh Tripel, producing an incredibly complex ale with notes of vanilla and coconut. 11% abv

Saison
Allagash Saison is an interpretation of a classic Belgian farmhouse style. It’s golden hued, brewed with a 2-Row blend, malted rye, oats and dark Belgian candi sugar. It’s hopped with Tettnang, Bravo and Cascade hops. Fermented with a traditional saison yeast strain, it exhibits notes of spice and tropical fruit in the aroma. Citrus and a peppery spice dominate the flavor and make way for a pleasant malt character. Saison is full bodied with a remarkably dry finish. 6.1% ABV
