Fegley’s Rude Elf’s Reserve

Only seven weeks until Christmas….which means the holiday beer season is well underway here at Hunterdon! This week we are excited to release one of our favorite seasonal sippers from just over the river and through the woods. Fegley’s Rude Elf’s Reserve is a rich and full-bodied Belgian-style Strong Dark Ale brewed with caramel malts, dark Belgian candy sugar, three Belgian yeast strains and spiced with cinnamon, nutmeg, sweet gale, cloves, coriander and allspice. Formerly called ‘Rudolph’s Reserve’, this beautiful ruby-red ale has been brewed at Fegley’s for nearly 14 years now. If you haven’t tried it yet, don’t wait another season to give it a whirl! This spicy winter warmer would be delicious with your pecan pie this Turkey Day or with some rich and gooey cheeses by the fireside. And if you can resist the urge to drink them all this season, save some in your cellar to drink next year. You won’t be disappointed!

Rude Elf is NOW AVAILABLE in 4-packs, cork & cage 750ml (bottle-conditioned) and 1/2 and 1/6 kegs!

About the brewery…

Fegley’s Brew Works is a family-run operation located in Pennsylvania’s Lehigh Valley. Their first brewpub in Bethlehem opened in 1998 when the town was experiencing an unfortunate downturn in the economy. Stores, restaurants and hotels were closing and morale was at an all time low. While running their new brewpub, the Fegley family worked selflessly to help rebuild the town, improve the local economy and restore faith in the community. After nearly a decade, not only is the brewpub a thriving business with an expanded kitchen, banquet facilities and increased brewhouse space, but the downtown is bustling with new stores and restaurants and a strong sense of pride.

Their second brewpub in downtown Allentown follows a similar story. The Fegley’s opened this location in 2007 with the same goal of serving delicious beer and food, while helping to bring life back into the community and the suffering downtown business scene. This new facility also allowed Fegley’s to expand their business from a brewpub to a full-fledged bottling and kegging operation. By 2009, it became possible for restaurants and stores in Pennsylvania and New Jersey to carry their beers on tap or in bottle!

Today Fegley’s continues to grow at a rapid pace. They recently purchased two new fermentation tanks that will allow them to increase their production by approximately 50%. The brewery also takes great pride in the environment and living sustainably. A hefty portion of their produce, beef, pork and poultry comes from local farms where they also bring their spent grains to feed the cattle. They have also worked closely with local Rodale Farms to create a composting program that keeps a half-a-million pounds of garbage out of landfills annually! The brewpubs operate on a combination of solar energy and LED lighting and when you’re sipping your coffee at the end of the night you can rest assured that it’s 100% fair-trade….that’s if you can pull yourself away from the tasty beers, of course!

Next time you are planning a trip to the Lehigh Valley or are looking for an idea for a nice day trip, consider stopping by one of Fegley’s brewpubs. One look at their events calendar will tell you that these guys really enjoy what they’re doing. From BBQs, golf outings and trivia nights to ‘Doggie Yappie Hours’ and evenings supporting the local artists, musicians, poets and comedians, Fegley’s has it covered! Please pour yourself a glass of Fegley’s today and be sure to check out their website for all the latest happenings!
