Rogue Ales & Spirits

We’d like to extend our condolences to the Rogue Nation and Family who recently lost their co-founder, Jack Joyce. Joyce’s son and President of Rogue Ales, Brett, sent us the following news:

Subject: YOU KNOW JACK

Friends-
Yesterday the Rogue Nation and Family lost our co-founder, leader, friend, and father as Jack Joyce passed away at the age of 71.

Following a career as both a small town attorney and Nike executive, Jack and some friends founded Rogue in 1988 in Ashland, Oregon. From the outset, Jack set Rogue on a path of innovation, creativity, and rebellion. Rogue made hoppy, flavorful beers and was told that no one would drink them. Rogue made a wide range of beers and was told no one wanted variety. Rogue sold 22oz bottles of beer and was told no one would pay a premium for a single serve beer. Rogue opened multiple pubs and breweries and was told that it would be wise to follow a more efficient and logical business plan. Rogue took the road less, or perhaps never, travelled. Rogue was the first U.S. craft brewer to send beer to Japan. Rogue won 1,000 awards for product and packaging excellence. Rogue worried about getting better, not bigger. Rogue began distilling. Rogue began farming. Rogue remained dedicated to its small town roots and made sure to give back to its local communities. Rogue started a Nation. This was all vintage Jack.

He was the true Rogue and will be missed by us all.

This week is all about Rogue! American Amber has arrived along with the rich and delicious VooDoo Pretzel, Raspberry & Chocolate Ale. We also received Black Obi Soba and Imperial Pils which are both from the series of internationally acclaimed Chef Masaharu Morimoto-a James Beard awarded chef and one of the stars of the Food Network series, Iron Chef.

Rogue brought the Distiller of the Year title back to the US from the World Beverage Competition in Geneva, Switzerland this year and have been impressing the masses with their innovative recipes. The newest Rogue Spirit to hit the NJ shelves is the Chipotle Spirit – “We distill the ale in small batches using Rogue’s traditional copper pot still, then individually hand-bottle the finished spirit. Chipotle Spirit offers a true taste of the ingredients used to create both the spirit and beer.” It’s great for a Bloody Mary or even a margarita!

Beer begins in the dirt. In a bold collaboration with Mother Nature, we grow 7 varieties of aroma hops at Rogue Farms in Independence, OR. We also string, stake, train, test, trim, separate, sort, kiln and cool them. Brewmaster John Maier had 7 varieties available, but rather than picking from among them, he chose all 7 to create a proprietary palate for 7 Hop IPA.

In-Stock Spirits:

Dead Guy Whiskey – made with the same 4 grains that are used to make Dead Guy Ale: Northwest Harrington, Maier Munich, Klages, and Carastan malts; Free Range Coastal Water & Distiller’s yeast. Delicately sweet with a rich malt complexity that opens up to a warm peppery finish.

Single Malt Whiskey – Made with 100% ‘Grow Your Own’ malt from Chatoe Rogue’s 257 acre farm. A portion of the barley is hand-smoked using alder and maple chips. Aged in oak barrels for three months.

Chipotle Spirit – Chipotle Spirit has a sweet, citrus aroma with subtle spice. Light-bodied, the unaltered clear spirit has a lush malt sweetness with lingering flavors of smoked jalapeno from the chipotles used to brew Chipotle Ale.

Hazelnut Spice Rum – Hazelnut Spice Rum instantly reveals sweet aromas of toasted hazelnut and brown sugar. Medium-bodied, a sweet blend of vanilla, cinnamon and clove set the stage for an oaky, vanilla and bourbon-like finish.

Spruce Gin – made with 14 ingredients: spruce, cucumber, angelica root, orange peel, coriander, lemon peel, ginger, orris root, grains of paradise, tangerine, juniper berries, Champagne Yeast, Grain Neutral Spirit & Free Range Coastal Water!

Pink Gin – Ocean aged in Oregon Pinot Noir barrels resulting in a slightly fruity, mellow and unmistakingly Pink Gin that could only come from Rogue!

Dark Rum– Produced from 100% pure Hawaiian cane sugar and champagne yeast. Deep amber in color with toffee, oak, and nutmeg aromas. Medium-bodied with a nutty, spicy finish.
