Sly Fox Oktoberfest Lager

The countdown to Oktoberfest celebrations and fall festivals starts NOW! You better get that big ol’ mug ready as we’ll be packing the market full of all your favorite Oktoberfest lagers and märzens from here on out. Kicking things off is one of our favorite craft versions from just across the river in Chester County, Pennsylvania….the ‘Grand Champion’ at the 2010 US Beer Tasting Championships – Sly Fox Oktoberfest Lager!

Golden copper/light amber in color, Sly Fox Oktoberfest Lager boasts a rich nutty, caramel and bisquity aroma. Malty and smooth on the palate, this extremely sessionable brew is perfect for a long-day of tailgating or enjoying at fall festivals with traditional German fare such as bratwurst or weiss wurst. For years this brew was packaged in 750ml bottles, but its new 6-pack can format (released for the first time in 2010) makes it much more earth friendly and easier to tote! Oktoberfest is also available on draft in 1/6 and 1/2 kegs, so be sure to look for it on tap at your local craft beer bar in the months ahead. Prost!

How did Oktoberfest get started in the first place?
The history of Munich’s famous Oktoberfest celebration dates back to the wedding of Prince Ludwig and Princess Therese in the year 1810. The Prince requested a hearty ‘festbier’ similar to the amber lager famous at the time in Vienna, to be served at his wedding on the 12th of October. This special new version – a rich, malty brew with notes of caramel and toast – became known as ‘Oktoberfest’ and was soon the object of a sixteen-day annual celebration in Germany and later, around the rest of the world!
