Smuttynose Brewing Hayseed

It’s time for the release of a fine Summer beer that invokes memories of lazy sunny days at a picnic, a reward after a long hike outdoors, or the perfect match for that easy summer meal. Hayseed is a farmhouse ale, or grisette. This style originated in Belgian’s Hainaut province for the miners after work. The name is thought to have derived from the grey frock uniforms that the women wore in the factories, who would stand with trays of beer for the miners after they finished work. Smuttynose brewed a lovely pale gold adaptation of this refreshing style, at a quite sessionable 3.8% ABV. Pair with mixed greens salad, soft cheese, or aromatic curry dishes.




Hayseed isn’t just a new and delicious brew from Smuttynose; it’s also a new restaurant! In February, Smuttynose Brewing Company opened Hayseed Farmstyle Restaurant at Towle Farm. It’s a renovated Victorian-era farm house featuring over two dozen taps, rare Smuttynose and Smuttlabs beers, selected guest beers, cask beers, vintage bottles, and Farmstyle cuisine from Executive Chef Kevin Hahn, featuring lots of locally-sourced ingredients Seasonal outdoor beer garden.
