Sweet Drink Ideas for Valentine’s Day

In need of some fun drink ideas for Valentine’s Day? Keep on reading! From chocolate stouts and sour ales to beer cocktails, meads and pink spirits, we have some “interesting” recommendations that will surely jazz up the evening….whether you’re hanging with your honey or just trying to forget about that awful night of speed dating!

The Chocolate Covered Banana (yes, you read that right)

Mix equal parts Wells Banana Bread with Young’s Double Chocolate Stout and serve!
Lip-smaking good and loads of fun for everyone!

Honey for your honey…Mead is the new Champagne!

Skip the expensive bubbly and grab some mead instead! What better way to greet your honey on Valentine’s Day than with a delicious Mead-mosa in bed?! Grab some of Redstone’s Black Raspberry or Sunshine Nectar and mix 2 parts nectar with 1 part orange juice. This is what they call “A dirty little cocktail that will make you smile!” There’s a story there I’m sure…

Or how about an Orange Creamsicle? You know you’re curious. This recipe is brought to us by our friends at B.Nektar Meadery. Mix the following over ice in a cocktail shaker:
2 parts B. Nektar Orange Blossom Mead
1 part Vodka
1 part Triple Sec
1 part Irish Cream Liqueur
Splash of orange juice
Pour ingredients into a martini glass. Garnish with an orange slice and serve!

Who wants chocolate?!

Um, who doesn’t want chocolate? Forgetting to pick up a few of these rich, dark, chocolate indulgences would be a sin. Perfect with that box of chocolate truffles, a chocolate molten lava cake or something equally as yummy.

  • Rogue Chocolate Stout – Released in 2001 for Valentine’s Day and brewed year-round now due to overwhelming demand! Bittersweet and decadent.
  • Young’s Double Chocolate Stout – Brewed with real dark chocolate and a combination of special sugars and chocolate essences. A divine indulgence to say the least.
  • And coming soon….River Horse Chocolate Porter!

For a real “wild” time…

…pick up some of these mouthwatering sour ales. Perfect with a big plate of rich and gooey, buttery cheeses. If you’re single, even better. More for you. Who needs a companion when you have cheese and sour beer to keep you company?

  • Hanssens Oude Kriek – Tart and fruity with barnyardy notes. Incredibly complex.
  • Hanssens Oude Gueze – Old and young lambics are blended and then aged for over three years. Intensely sour with strong citrus and earthy notes.
  • Weyerbacher Riserva – an 11.7% abv amber ale fermented with wild yeast and red raspberries. The only way you’ll get this one before Valentine’s Day is by attending Weyerbacher’s Riserva Release Party TODAY (Friday, Feb.10th) at the brewery. So if you’re looking for a gift idea, get on over to the brewery and pick up a few bottles, otherwise, we’ll be releasing it throughout NJ the week of the 20th!
  • Liefmans Fruitesse – more fruity than sour but a good one to throw in with the rest of these. Aged for 18 months on tart cherries and then blended with a combination of fruit juices. Wonderfully refreshing!

Drink PINK!

If you’re looking to mix it up on Valentine’s Day, why not make it all pretty in pink? The fabulous pink hue in Rogue’s PINK Gin is achieved by aging their signature Spruce Gin in local Oregon Pinot Noir barrels. Fruity, yet mellow with loads of cucumber and citrus. Try it in this delicious drink recipe:

Rogue Strawberry Crush
sliced strawberries
1 1/2 oz Pink Gin
1 1/2 oz lemon-lime soda
Put strawberries in a highball glass. Add crushed ice and Pink Gin and top with lemon-lime soda. Voila!

And, don’t forget about PINK wine! Grab a bottle of Toad Hollow’s Eye of the Toad Rose for the wine lover in your life. Wonderfully dry and bursting with notes of wild strawberries, violets and spice. This rose is great as an appertif but is also extremely food friendly, so don’t be afraid to pair it with dinner.

And just for some fun…
…we had to throw these appropriate, or maybe not so appropriate, beers for the occasion:

  • Yards Love Stout (draft only) – If you’re out and about for Valentine’s Day, look for this decadent Philly brew on tap!
  • Voodoo Love Child – This beer love child is what happened when a Belgian Tripel met up with a big ol’ pile of passion fruit, raspberries and tart cherries!
  • Rogue Chatoe OREgasmic – Enough said.
  • Flying Dog Raging Bitch – for that special feisty someone in your life..
  • The Lost Abbey Judgment Day – For most of you men, this is what the day should be called….

Cheers and Happy Valentine’s Day!
